Local News in Brief : Shots Bring Police Action

Share

An Inglewood man firing his new gun early Wednesday brought out the city’s SWAT team and caused the evacuation of an apartment building before police arrested the man without incident, authorities said.

As many as 30 shots were fired with a semi-automatic pistol out the window of a second-story apartment in the 100 block of Buckthorne Street, police said, but there were no injuries.

Officers responding to calls from neighbors about 1:45 a.m. at first thought that they were being shot at and called for reinforcements and ordered the building evacuated. But police later played down the incident and said that Erasmo Robles, 24, would be charged only with firing a gun within city limits, a misdemeanor.

A standoff of about two hours ensued, until a Spanish-speaking officer on a bullhorn convinced four frightened men in the apartment to come out, Sgt. Robert Snowden said.
