Redondo to Keep Annual 10-K Run

The Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce would like to set the record straight with regards to our upcoming Redondo Beach Super Bowl Sunday 10-K Run, which we are planning to hold on Jan. 31, 1988, or whatever date the 1988 Super Bowl will be held. In your article (Times, Oct. 8) you mistitled it by saying: “Promoter Pulling 10-K Race Out of Redondo Beach.” This is not the case.

The Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce initiated this run nine years ago and utilized Hans Albrecht as race promoter-director.

This is not a run that Albrecht owns, that he can move to Long Beach as he referred to as Al Davis would move the Raiders.

The Redondo Beach City Council has every year approved this run to be hosted and/or sponsored by the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce and the chamber has historically contracted with Hans Albrecht to promote and direct the event.

Just because Hans has promoted and directed this event for us for the past several years does not give him the right to assume that it is his to take elsewhere.

We have obtained approval from the city to hold our Redondo Beach Super Bowl 10-K Run on Jan. 31 and do not appreciate the gist of your article to indicate that Albrecht was taking this run to Long Beach. It will be held as always in Redondo Beach.

Any run Albrecht starts or promotes in Long Beach will be a new run at a new venue. If Albrecht chooses to start a new run in Long Beach we would like to set the record straight that it will not be the Super Bowl Sunday 10-K Run that has been run in Redondo Beach for the past nine years, moved to Long Beach.

Also in your article Albrecht states that if the Redondo Beach race is called the 10th Annual Super Bowl Sunday 10-K Run, he will take legal action against the Chamber of Commerce. Once again, to set the records straight, we have documentation signed by Hans Albrecht that the name belongs to us.

The 10th Annual Redondo Beach Super Bowl Sunday 10-K Run will be held in Redondo Beach as it has in the past nine years.
