Craig Fielder, Virginia defensive end who waged a three-year battle against cancer, died Friday night. He was 21.
Fielder died at a hotel in Columbia, S.C., where the Cavaliers were staying before their Saturday game against South Carolina, a university spokesman said.
Fielder, who missed the 1985 season, played all 11 games in 1986. He underwent two bone marrow transplants earlier this year and took the fall semester off, but still went to all the Cavalier games.
