A bizarre traffic accident Wednesday afternoon killed an elderly San Marcos woman.
Clara Kelly, an 89-year-old resident of the Valle Verde Mobile Estates in the 1200 block of Discovery Street, died after she was run over and then dragged a few feet by her friend’s car, sheriff’s deputy Eddie Jackson said.
The driver, Margaret Sykora, 82, also a resident of the complex, had intended to give Kelly and two female passengers a ride to the clubhouse so they could spend the afternoon together, Jackson said.
As Kelly walked in front of the car to get in on the passenger side, Sykora was going to back up but forgot to take the car out of drive, Jackson said, and ran over Kelly.
Jackson said charges are not likely to be filed.
