Local News in Brief : Sewer Project Opposed
A group of the largest landowners and developers in Malibu has come out against Los Angeles County’s proposed $86-million regional sewer system and is joining an ad hoc committee to seek an alternative system.
Officials from Pepperdine University, the Malibu Board of Realtors and Roy Crummer, chief executive of Reco Land Corp., which owns the largest parcel of undeveloped land in the Malibu Civic Center, said the county’s project is too costly and exceeds the needs of the 20,000 people in Malibu.
County supervisors are scheduled to vote on the sewer project at a public hearing today. Crummer, who was appointed chairman of the ad hoc community group this week, said he will ask the supervisors to delay the vote until they can come up with a “more suitable” sewer system for Malibu.
