Local News in Brief : Coliseum Project Snag

Share

The State Office of Historic Preservation has written Coliseum Commission President Alexander Haagen notifying him that, because the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is on the National Register of Historic Places, designating it as a national historic landmark, any renovation projects affecting its design must be reviewed by the office.

If there would be an “adverse effect, we must work together to determine a method of implementation that would either eliminate or mitigate” it, said the letter from State Historic Preservation Officer Kathryn Gualtieri.

She said she had written after hearing of proposals to modify the stadium to make it a better place for viewing football. “The review process should be initiated early in the planning stages, so that major revisions of already drawn plans can be avoided,” she wrote.
