Universal Studios Tour had been preparing an earthquake attraction for some time--and took the day of the 6.1 quake to announce it. Now the studio’s registered a new movie title with the MPAA: “Earthquake: The Big One.” But Universal chief Sid Sheinberg insists that the epicenter of this project wasn’t the latest, real-life rumble.

“The fact is, we’ve been talking about doing another earthquake movie for years,” Sheinberg told us. “After all, we did do the original ‘Earthquake’ (in 1974).”

“The Big One” is the title of a long-in-development movie with Walter Mirisch. It was previously known as “Earthquake: San Francisco.”
