A leopard that escaped from a zoo after a storm damaged its cage has returned, its keepers said Friday.

The male animal escaped with its mate Oct. 16 when hurricane-force winds blew a tree onto the cage at a private zoo owned by millionaire John Aspinall near Hythe, south of London. The female was recaptured soon after it escaped.

The male turned up at the zoo on Thursday night, apparently because it was hungry, and was locked in temporary quarters, the keepers said.

There were no reports of the leopard causing any disturbance during its week of freedom.
