I watched “Star Trek: The Next Generation”...

I watched “Star Trek: The Next Generation” with low expectations and I wasn’t disappointed. In the first few minutes I heard, in at least two instances, contemporary slang being used. Why do I get the impression that today’s scripts are crafted by inexperienced 20-year-olds with no concept of any culture except their own? Perhaps it’s because that in over 70 episodes of the original “Star Trek” and in all the heated conversations that Capt. Kirk had with aliens, I never once heard an alien riposte “Oh yeah?”
