Country Chic Under the Harvest Moon

Best boots and bandannas will be country chic when TreePeople mosey on up to Coldwater Canyon Park in Beverly Hills on Nov. 4 for the “Evening Under the Harvest Moon.” The crowd will do some foot-stomping to fiddle tunes, do a barbecue bonanza provided by Bob Morris and RJ’s The Rib Joint. Cider and suds will accompany the moonlight strolls.

This 10th anniversary is not exactly drop-in, however. Board chairman Marion Siciliano intends that the expected 500 will fork over $200 apiece.

Everywhere she goes Marion Siciliano tells about the marvels of TreePeople. The organization will talk to more than 25,000 school children this year about the natural environment; each year TreePeople puts 10,000 seedlings into fire- and smog-damaged areas in mountains around Los Angeles.

CHANGE: Group Effort, the four-way unique dinner auction that last year netted $425,000, welcomes a new fourth member to replace the Leukemia Society of America, which has dropped out. It’s the Los Angeles Children’s Museum, joining the ranks of the Arthritis Foundation, Diabetes Unit for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Loyola Marymount University.

UPCOMING: The Palos Verdes Peninsula Horsemen’s Assn. stages a Fiesta on the Bluffs party next Sunday in the Catalina Room at Marineland, which opens to the Pacific. Cookie (her real name’s Estelle) Holic, benefit chairwoman, says the association represents 500 families dedicated to equestrian pursuits and Peninsula historic trails. . . .

That wonderful Treasures and Trivia is staged Friday though Sunday by the Pasadena Guild of Childrens Hospital at 323 E. Main in Alhambra. Co-chairs Kathy Gillespie and Petrie Wilson have been collecting designer clothes, silver, books and furniture for a year with their committee including Helen Whitehead, Dolly Eddington, Jane Wells and Mikie Marsh.

IRISH GARDENS: Irish designer Sybil Connolly will star at the Friends of French Art (the international group of art conservationists) Fourth Annual Garden Gala Nov. 19. “Fete Champetre” takes place at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences under the patronage of the French Consul General Bernard Miyet. Because of her textiles (chintz for Brunschwig & Fils), home furnishings (china for Tiffany) and design fortes (sheets for Martex), Sybil is often referred to as “one of Ireland’s national treasures.” She’ll be autographing her new book, “In an Irish Garden.”

CONNECTIONS: Everyone needs them. And Connections, the group designed for the young crowd to meet and volunteer with others in the same habitat, parties Thursday evening. This service organization of the Music Center will have cocktails and supper at Steppes Restaurant in the Crocker Center, then attend the Los Angeles Philharmonic concert at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. WINTER’S COMING: It was all that Marti Daly of Pacific Palisades could do to control the four white shampooed and fluffy huskies on the fashion ramp at the Beverly Wilshire this week for the Juniors of the Social Service Auxiliary fashion show. After a luscious luncheon and the fashions of Alan Austin, Greta, Elizabeth Arden, Suite 202, Marge Mohr, Gorgissima and Anita Bachofer, Theodore Furs brought on the minks and foxes to ignite the minds of charity-goers, and the huskies conveyed that winter shivers are close. Putting a stamp of approval on the show were Debbie Parker (president), Pat Lorne (Regis House chairman who brought her daughter, Michele), Sylvia Patsaouras, Barbara Wilder and Rachel Druten (both writing romance novels) and Doreen Siodmak (who toasted her daughter Carol’s engagement to Greg Madonna with surprise champagne).

BUSY SEASON: UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors Harry Belafonte and Liv Ullman will attend the Universal Pictures world premiere of “Cry Freedom” Nov. 5 to benefit the U.S. Committee for UNICEF. Hugh Downs is chairman of the board. . . .

Marlene Billington is happily congregating the 160 members of Encore (all the past presidents of Philharmonic support groups) for luncheon Thursday. . . .

The Auxiliary of Hathaway Home for Children has invited friends to honor their friend Burgess Meredith when he gets a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Nov. 5. Producer Robert Chartoff will be in charge of the merrymaking and mischief and the luncheon later at Spago, along with Geraldine Gleason Chutuk, Donna Wolff, Ellen Donaldson and auxiliary president Liz Sides.

CIRCLE RED: In Los Angeles County more than 1 million suffer from asthma and allergies. The Los Angeles Chapter of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America and its former president Marj Malloy have always been there to raise the dollars. Now, she’ll be named volunteer of the year in the celebrity auction/dinner dance Nov. 8 at the Beverly Wilshire. . . .

Mannequins Assistance League of Southern California host patrons Nov. 8 at the art deco home of Carol Carfagno Richardson. Chairman Frederika Roeder and patron chairman Susan Needleman will join in the thank yous.

CIRCLE ORANGE: The League for Crippled Children’s 51st “Jack O’Lantern Ball” will have not only Horace Heidt Jr. and his Raiders Band, but the All-American Boys Chorus, says Frances C. Mayle, ball chairwoman.
