Local News in Brief : City Extends Moratorium
A moratorium on high-rise building on Ventura Boulevard was extended Tuesday for two years by the Los Angeles City Council to allow for completion of a traffic improvement plan for the congested San Fernando Valley thoroughfare. The measure, approved unanimously, was sent to Mayor Tom Bradley for his expected approval.
City planners said the extension is needed to stop any large projects that would worsen traffic congestion before a city consultant can complete, and the City Council and mayor can approve, new development controls for the boulevard.
The moratorium, adopted in October, 1985, limits buildings to no more than three stories and sets the maximum square footage at 1 1/2 times the size of the lot.
