Williams, Clippers’ Top Pick, Scores 11, but They Lose to Hawks in Memphis, 110-91
Reggie Williams, who signed with the Clippers last week, made his National Basketball Assn. exhibition debut Tuesday night in the team’s 110-91 loss to the Atlanta Hawks before 9,508 at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis, Tenn.
Williams, a forward-guard from Georgetown and the Clippers’ No. 1 draft choice, played all of the second half and scored 11 points, including one three-point goal.
The Hawks were led by Dominique Wilkins, who scored 28 points. Atlanta out-rebounded the Clippers, 60-37, although the Clippers’ full-court press forced 26 turnovers.
Mike Woodson led all Clipper scorers with 21 points. Four Clipper guards held guard Spud Webb to 4 points in 18 minutes.
The Clippers will play Atlanta again Thursday night at Huntington, W. Va.
