St. Louis Fans Only Responded to Leonard
Mike Downey has again shown his complete disloyalty to hometown interests in the important Heisman Trophy race. This time he has wholeheartedly embraced as his choice Tim Brown, the East Coast media favorite, after a lackluster performance against USC when he gained less than one-fifth the yardage that Gaston Green did on the same day.
This man is doing a great disservice to the community. The hometown writers carry a huge responsibility to promote local affairs. They should create enthusiasm and competitive attitudes among the local student-athletes and fans. Journalists should not abuse the freedom to write. They should not look down on the local heroes.
