Bobby Rahal, driving a March, won the inaugural Malboro Challenge at Tamiami Park in Miami, earning a prize of $225,000.

The 75-mile race, involving 1987 race-winners, pole-winners and drivers high in the season point standings, included a mandatory pit stop for two tires and five gallons of fuel by each of the 10 starters.

Danny Sullivan finished second, and pole-sitter Raul Boesel of Brazil, substituting for the injured Roberto Guerrero, was third.
