The widow of boxer Willie Classen, who died of head injuries after a fight at Madison Square Garden in 1979, received a six-figure out-of-court settlement, according to lawyers and court officials involved in the case.
The settlement followed a seven-year legal battle over the medical treatment Classen received after being knocked out in the 10th round of a middleweight fight and the decisions made to continue the bout after he was knocked down in earlier rounds. Classen died of a brain hemorrhage five days after the fight.
