Former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Carl Monroe was cited for being under the influence of drugs after his car was stopped by a police officer in San Jose, police said.
The five-year-veteran, waived by the team this week after playing during the National Football League player strike, was pulled over by police Sunday evening while driving his 1987 Ford Bronco, Sgt. Dwight Messimer said.
Messimer said Monroe was taken to the police station after the officer noticed Monroe’s pupils were dilated. Monroe was not arrested for driving under the influence of drugs because officers determined his driving was not impaired, Messimer said, adding that the drug he was using was some type of opiate.
