First Down Dash Wins Easily in Breeders’ Race

First Down Dash led from the start and easily won the $150,000-added Breeders’ Championship Classic Saturday before 8,046 at Los Alamitos Race Course.

First Down Dash, with James Lackey aboard, broke cleanly and led by a length at the halfway point of the 440-yard race. The horse covered the course in 21.60.

“He broke like a bullet,” said Blane Schvaneveldt, First Down Dash’s trainer. “He got out to the lead quick, that’s where we wanted to be.”

It was the seventh straight victory for the 3-year old colt, who has won 12 of its 14 career races.

The victory was worth $52,000 to First Down Dash’s owners, the Vessels Stallion Farm, pushing the horse’s career earnings to $757,256.

First Down Dash paid $3.20, $2.80 and $2.20. Second place Six Fortunes paid $10.80 and $4.60. Brace Your Glass placed third paying $5.20

Betty Loop, with Kenneth Hart aboard, nosed out Such An Easy Effort to win the $100,000-added Juvenile Classic for two-year olds.
