Local News in Brief : Countywide : County Groups Schedule Veterans Day Services

Twelve recipients of the Medal of Honor will be honored in a ceremony in front of Costa Mesa City Hall on Wednesday as groups around the county mark Veterans Day.

The City of Costa Mesa and American Legion Post 455 will honor the Medal of Honor recipients in a 10:30 a.m. ceremony that will include an all-service color guard and a flyover by jets from March Air Force Base. The decorated veterans are in town for the 15th Biennial Convention of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, which will be held Thursday through Sunday in Irvine.

More than 150 Medal of Honor recipients are expected to attend the convention.

Elsewhere on Veterans Day, American Legion Post 291 in Newport Beach will honor living veterans of World War I and wives and widows of World War I servicemen in a ceremony and luncheon beginning at 10:30 a.m. at post headquarters, 215 15th St. The public is invited; the cost of lunch for all but invited guests is $4.

At American Legion Post 295, at 5389 Ball Road in Cypress, memorial services will begin at 11 a.m. And members of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter will raise flags at Memory Garden Memorial Park, 455 W. Central Ave. in Brea, beginning at 6 a.m.
