San Diego City Council members on Monday rejected a proposal to raise fines for overdue library books taken out by juveniles.
A proposal by the city manager called for keeping the daily fine at 5 cents for those books, but raising the maximum charge to $2.50 from $1.
Council members rejected the proposal, in part because the increase in revenue for the city--roughly $5,000--would be too little to justify the action.
