Culver City : Meeting on Health Clinic Set

A health center on the campus of the Culver City Middle School and High School will be the subject of a Culver City parents’ meeting Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.

The Culver City Youth Health Center, scheduled to open Monday, will provide free medical care for youths 11 to 18 years old. Parental permission will be required for treatment.

Parents may enroll their children in the program and discuss the medical services with center staff at Wednesday’s meeting. The privately funded center will be staffed by five members from the UCLA School of Medicine.

The center will offer general health care including immunizations, treatment for minor injuries, illnesses and skin disease and will provide physical exams, eye checkups and hearing exams.

Although the clinic will give gynecological exams and pregnancy tests and treat sexually transmitted diseases, contraceptives will not be dispensed or prescribed, according to Doriel Pearson, the center’s medical assistant.

The center, 4401 Elenda Ave., will be open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to noon and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 5 p.m.

Parental consent forms will be available at the Wednesday meeting and at the health center on Nov. 11 to 25, 8 to 10 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. In addition, parents may call (213) 839-4361, Ext. 4361, or 825-6657 for an appointment.
