Sunny Weekend Forecast for Basin
A cooler, windy--yet mostly sunny--weekend should be in store for Southern California as a storm system in the upper atmosphere moves eastward through the area today, forecasters said Thursday.
Meteorologist Mike Smith of WeatherData, which provides forecasts for The Times, said the upper-air system, which may bring rain to the San Francisco Bay Area and snow to the Rockies, will only mean cooler daytime highs--in the 60s--for the Southland, ending the 80-degree weather that prevailed during the week.
Forecasters expect gusty northwest winds to 35 m.p.h. to kick up in the coastal areas and in the mountains today. Then, the National Weather Service said, the winds should shift to the north on Saturday, particularly in the deserts.
There also may be some late-night and morning low clouds, dissolving into hazy sunshine, for most of the Los Angeles area today, the weather service said.
Smith said temperatures may shoot back into the 70s by Monday.
