Kicker, Given 4 Chances, Wins It for South Carolina St.
On his fourth attempt, freshman William Wrighten kicked a 21-yard field goal with no time remaining Thursday night to give South Carolina State a 15-13 college football victory over Grambling State.
Trailing 13-12 with five seconds left, Wrighten first missed a 41-yard field goal, but got another chance after being roughed by Grambling defenders.
He missed again from 29 yards and then again from 26 yards but got a fourth attempt when Grambling twice went offsides.
Then Wrighten, who was four for four entering the game, kicked the 21-yard game-winner that broke South Carolina State’s two-game losing streak and improved the Bulldogs to 6-4 with one game remaining in their regular season.
Grambling is now 5-5.
