‘Sport’ of Boxing Takes One on Chin

Aileen Eaton, grande dame of Southern California boxing for nearly 50 years, saw more than 10,000 professional bouts, Jack Hawn wrote. She saw 10,000 exhibitions of a “sport” in which the avowed object is to inflict as much bodily harm as possible on one’s opponent, to the delight of untold numbers of “sports fans.”
She saw 20,000 men risk permanent damage to eyes, nose, teeth, ears, larynx, kidneys and brain. A marvelous figure, that 20,000. Would Hawn care to break it down into the categories listed?
