Mitchell Scores Hat Trick to Lead Kansas City Over Lazers, 7-5

The Los Angeles Lazers lost to the Kansas City Comets, 7-5, Friday night in a Major Indoor Soccer League game at the Forum.

The Lazers fell to 0-2 as the Comets’ Dale Mitchell recorded his 17th career hat trick. Mitchell also had two assists for a total of five points.

Kansas City took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Damir Haramina, but Doug Neeley, playing in his first MISL game since being called up, got the Lazers even with 51 seconds gone in the second period.

Mitchell scored the first of his three goals at 5:07 of the second period.

The Comets went in front, 3-1, on a goal by Jan Goossens 5 1/2 minutes later. The goal, which came nine seconds after Neeley was flagged for charging, marked the 53rd consecutive game in which Goossens has recorded at least a point.

The Lazers came back to tie it before halftime on goals by Chris Whyte and Chico Borja.

The teams traded third-period goals to enter the final period tied at 4-4.

Goals by Charley Greene and Mitchell gave Kansas City a 6-4 lead before Whyte pulled the Lazers within one with his second goal.

The Lazers’ Chris Cheuden was called for a two-minute dissent penalty, and Mitchell scored on the power play to wrap up the victory.
