Norwalk : Church Lease Extended

Share

Grace Korean Church will be able to continue using portions of Excelsior High School until February, 1990, under a lease extension approved this week by the board of the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District.

The action is the latest of several recently taken by the board in connection with the high school, closed in 1981 because of declining enrollment. In August the board put Grace Korean on notice that it would not renew the church’s annual lease when it expires in February because the district wanted the freedom to negotiate possible sale of the 38-acre school site. Then the board pulled the property off the market, saying it needed more time to consider the school’s future.

Even if the school grounds are again put up for sale, it would take at least 18 months to finalize any transaction, said Howard Rainey, assistant district superintendent. So the board decided to let the church stay for another two years.
