A woman’s six-hour standoff with police ended Wednesday when she dropped the pistol she was pointing at her temple and officers rushed in.

Linda Barnett, 31, of Hemet was captured unharmed at 7 a.m. after police lobbed tear gas canisters into the office building where she had barricaded herself after an argument with her estranged husband, said Anaheim Police Lt. Steve Brace. One officer suffered from tear gas inhalation when Barnett ripped off his gas mask, police said. He was treated at a hospital and released.

The incident started about 12:15 a.m. in the 1300 block of North Lakeview Avenue when a caller reported a woman trying to throw herself in front of traffic at A-Assured Roofing Co., which is owned by Barnett’s husband, Brace said.

Officers searching the area found Barnett about two hours later, hiding in the building and armed with a semiautomatic pistol. They closed the street and set up a barricade. Over the next several hours Barnett fired three shots--none of them aimed at police-- before she was captured, Brace said.

An employee in the building at the time escaped and hid in a truck parked outside, Brace said.

Barnett was taken to Western Medical Center in Anaheim for psychiatric evaluation, Brace said. Police do not plan to ask for charges against her, Brace said.
