7-Footer Mike White Stops Oscar Holman
Mike White of Long Beach, one of professional boxing’s biggest fighters at 7 feet and 287 pounds, knocked out Oscar Holman in the fifth round of their scheduled 12-round state heavyweight elimination bout Wednesday night at the Spruce Goose-Queen Mary complex in Long Beach.
White (19-5) is expected to fight California heavyweight champion Dee Collier later this year. Holman, 206, formerly of Philadelphia and now of Los Angeles, fell to 12-7.
White relentlessly pounded Holman through the first four rounds with jabs and hooks to the body and right hands to the head. Holman’s chief second threw in the towel, and the bout was stopped by referee Kenny Davis at 1:28 of the fifth round.
