Child Molestation Suspect Arrested After Traffic Stop

A routine traffic stop in Palos Verdes Estates Thursday afternoon led to the arrest of a 23-year-old suspect in the molestation of two girls last week at Malaga Cove Intermediate School.

Officer Mike Mitchell stopped David Kelly Moyer at 4 p.m. for a minor traffic violation on Palos Verdes Drive West, then noticed that the Harbor City man resembled a composite drawing of the molester, according to Sgt. Tom Vanderpool.

Moyer was arrested on suspicion of child molestation and attempted rape. He is being held on $500,000 bail, pending an arraignment scheduled Monday in South Bay Municipal Court.

Two 12-year-old girls said someone molested and tried to rape them Nov. 9 as they played on the school campus, which was closed for Veterans Day.

One of the victims happened to drive past with her mother Thursday as Moyer was being questioned by police, Vanderpool said. He said the girl recognized the man and screamed to her mother: “That looks just like him!”
