Delta Jet Lands OK After Engine Trouble

A Delta Airlines DC-10 made a safe, emergency landing at Honolulu International Airport after mechanical problems forced the pilot to shut down one of the jetliner’s three engines, officials said Thursday.

No injuries were reported. There were 112 passengers and crew members aboard.

A Delta spokesman in Los Angeles said Flight 1563 from Los Angeles to Honolulu was about 400 miles east of the islands Wednesday when the problem occurred in the tail engine. The pilot declared an emergency as a routine precaution since the plane was over water.

The DC-10 made an emergency descent and landed safely in Honolulu at 10:15 p.m., Hawaii time.
