The Santa Ana Public Library will begin operating a Children’s Hispanic Bookmobile on Monday that will bring 5,000 books, records and cassettes in Spanish and English to Spanish-speaking areas.

The bookmobile, which will operate Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, has material targeted for children from preschool to grade five.

Santa Ana has the largest population of children under 5 years old in the county, said Margaret Jean Owens, head of library extension services. The bookmobile, bought with $45,000 in state and federal funds, is designed to motivate children to read and encourage family library use.
