A 15-year-old Burbank mother has been arrested on suspicion of murder in the death of her newborn son, whose body was found wrapped in a paper bag and dropped into a flood control channel, police said Monday.
The infant's 17-year-old father also was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment, police said. The arrests came after the two walked into St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank about 5:30 a.m. Sunday seeking help for the girl, who had just given birth.
Police said an autopsy is pending on the body, which was recovered from the channel near the intersection of Lake Street and Providencia Avenue. Bruises on the baby's body are believed to have come from his being "thrown or dropped" into the concrete flood control channel, a police spokesman said.
