Breeders’ Cup Didn’t Lure Viewers Away From College Football Games
As a television attraction, the Breeders’ Cup, as expected, didn’t fare very well against college football Saturday.
In Los Angeles, the USC-UCLA game drew a Nielsen rating of 15.4, while the Breeders’ Cup drew a 5.0, according to NBC.
Other L.A. ratings: Oklahoma-Nebraska 6.3, Penn State-Notre Dame 8.3 and Michigan-Ohio State 4.9.
Each full rating point represents about 45,000 TV households in the Los Angeles area.
In the nation’s 15 largest markets, the Breeders’ Cup drew an average overnight Nielsen rating of 3.8.
Other overnight averages: Oklahoma-Nebraska 11.4, Penn State-Notre Dame 8.0, USC-UCLA 5.4 and Michigan-Ohio State 4.1.
National ratings will not be available until the end of the week.
In its first three years, the Breeders’ Cup drew national ratings of 5.0, 4.1 and 4.4.
