Women have made few gains in finding management-level jobs in local TV news, despite a substantial increase in production of such programming, a four-year study conducted by the Talentbank Ltd. recruiting service has concluded. Women hold 31% of such positions (as compared to 32% in 1984), but in too many cases they are jobs with “glass ceilings” that keep women from climbing the corporate ladder. The survey cited posts on less important weekend and midday newscasts as examples. Nationwide, the study said, women hold 7% of news director jobs (the same as 1984). Its conclusion: Only large markets offer women a chance to reach the top.
