Western Health Plans blamed higher health-care costs and increased competition for a $2.2- million net loss for the first fiscal 1988 quarter ended Sept. 30. The company, based in San Diego, reported a $347,000 net profit during the first quarter of the previous fiscal year.
Revenue for the quarter rose by 29% to $32 million, up from $24.7 million for the previous first quarter. Western linked the increase to increased enrollments in San Diego and in the Pomona-Riverside area.
