Local News in Brief : Orange : Hospital Seeks Sponsors for Christmas Tree Bulbs

Share

A popular fund-raising event is back at St. Joseph Hospital this holiday season.

For the fourth year, anyone can sponsor a bulb to light up the hospital’s 20-foot Christmas tree for $10 or $100, depending on where the bulb will be.

The fund-raiser enables the hospital to help families of its terminally ill patients care for the patients at home.

“A lot of terminally ill patients like to be cared for at home and would rather die there,” counselor Amy Manfrini said. “It can be financially and emotionally draining on a parent, child or spouse. When they need to get out and go grocery shopping and things like that, we provide respite for them.”

Manfrini said the money from the tree fund-raiser directly supports the care and nursing that patients need.

The tree will be lit at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 6 in the hospital parking lot. The “Light Up a Life Event” raised $27,000 last year.

Donations of $100 or more will buy a light on the star that will top the tree.
