COLLEGE FOOTBALL : Augustana’s Undefeated Streak Ends at 60
The University of Dayton ended Augustana College’s 60-game unbeaten string Saturday with a 38-36 victory in the NCAA Division III playoffs.
Augustana, of Rock Island, Ill., had a 59-0-1 record since losing to West Georgia in the 1982 Stagg Bowl for the Division III title. Augustana won 37 straight, tied a game and then won 22 more in a row while taking four straight Division III titles.
Dayton (10-2) will play host to Central of Iowa next Saturday in a Division III semifinal. Augustana finished the season 11-1.
Dave Jones rushed for 219 yards in 26 carries and scored on runs of 78, 1 and 2 yards to lead Dayton, which led, 38-21, early in the fourth quarter.
