Herman Wouk’s “The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial” is being remade as a TV movie for CBS, with Robert Altman directing. Brad Davis has been cast as Capt. Queeg, the role played by Humphrey Bogart in the 1954 film adaptation of Wouk’s novel. This version is based on his play, and will co-star Jeff Daniels, Michael Murphy, Kevin J. O’Connor, Eric Bogosian and Peter Gallagher.

Holiday pair: Cleavon Little and Keri Houlihan of “Our House” will be guest stars on the Dec. 14 episode of “ALF,” a one-hour edition in which NBC’s favorite alien learns the meaning of Christmas. . . . That same night, Philip Michael Thomas of “Miami Vice” will host “Motown Merry Christmas,” an NBC special featuring the Pointer Sisters, Natalie Cole, the Temptations, Lola Falana, Redd Foxx, Run DMC and Marsha Warfield, among others.

Jaclyn Smith, already set to appear in the miniseries “Windmills of the Gods” on CBS this season, is making another for ABC, “The Bourne Identity.” She’ll star opposite Richard Chamberlain in the four-hour mystery based on Robert Ludlum’s novel. Smith takes over the role that initially was filled by Lesley-Anne Down, who subsequently withdrew.

Pat Mitchell and Mary Muldoon, the creative forces behind the late talk show “Woman to Woman,” have come up with another series proposal that they will attempt to syndicate. It’s called “The Family Show” and will feature families from all walks of life interacting and discussing the ties that bind them. Mitchell would host with former football star Ahmad Rashad.
