The University of Houston football team must forfeit its 37-7 win Nov. 14 over Temple because safety Randy Thornton was ineligible to play, Houston Athletic Director Rudy Davalos announced.

Davalos said an examination of Thornton’s class records showed that two courses were added to Thornton’s schedule Nov. 12, past the deadline to add courses.

The courses were added incorrectly, Davalos said, meaning Thornton was not enrolled for 12 semester hours as required by Southwest Conference and NCAA rules.

Davalos said Thornton was eligible for all other games in which he played.

The forfeit drops Houston’s record to 3-7-1 this season.
