Airline passengers at John Wayne Airport may have noticed a new name on some of the jets flying into the airport: Alaska Airlines. Alaska Air Group Inc. bought Long Beach-based Jet America last year. But it wasn’t until last month that Jet America’s two daily flights from the Orange County airport began operating under the Alaska Airlines name. The two flights are to Portland and Seattle. Seattle-based Alaska Air is a regional airline and the only West Coast-based airline remaining after a wave of mergers and acquisitions in the air travel industry. The airline held a directors meeting in Orange County on Tuesday to meet local business and civic leaders. Alaska Air recently quadrupled the number of its flights within California, and said Tuesday that it would like to increase the number of flights at John Wayne if the airport could handle additional flights.
