Newport Firm to Make Lasers for Military

Resdel Industries, a Newport Beach electronics firm, said Tuesday it has formed a subsidiary called Resdel Electro-Optics Systems to develop recently acquired laser technology for military communications.

Resdel Electro-Optics has bought licensing rights to the laser technology from AccuLase Inc. of San Diego, which is developing it for use in the medical and semiconductor industries.

The Resdel subsidiary will seek to develop the technology for military communications in strategic missions and in space, according to Bruce G. Rossiter, chief financial officer of Resdel Industries.

Rossiter said the subsidiary is pursuing development contracts from the military and other sources, but no contracts have been announced. AccuLase will be hired by Resdel Electro-Optics as a development subcontractor, he said.

Resdel Chairman Charles W. Missler has been named acting chief executive of the subsidiary. R. Norris Keeler, a scientist, will assist in initial operations, Rossiter said. Resdel Industries has named Keeler to a newly created position on its board of directors.

Keeler has been a consultant to several U.S. government agencies for the last five years and is the principal scientific adviser to Kaman Aerospace Corp., a defense contractor in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was director of technology for the Navy in 1975-78 and chief of physics at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory in 1971-75.

Resdel Industries is also the parent corporation of Resdel Engineering and Sanbar Corp. Resdel Engineering is a supplier of high-frequency, microwave and digital equipment. Sanbar is a supplier of telephone equipment and digital microwave communication systems.
