Local News in Brief : Trains to Be Monitored

Share

In a new move to combat train blockages of intersections in southeast Los Angeles County, the United Neighborhoods Organization has started a regional monitoring plan to better report complaints against Southern Pacific Transportation Co.

UNO is distributing forms to city halls and churches in the area with which residents can note the date and time an intersection is blocked by a train. Leaders of the community group said they will send copies of each complaint to the railroad, the state Public Utilities Commission, Dist. Atty. Ira Reiner and officials of the city in which the delay occurred.

Since 1984, Southern Pacific has been charged with more than 30 counts of illegally blocking intersections and has been fined $15,000.
