It’s been a big week in the world of art auctions: On Tuesday, Pablo Picasso’s “Souvenir du Havre” was sold for $7.5 million at Sotheby’s in London--the highest price ever for a work by the Spanish artist. Swiss dealer Ernst Beyeler bought the 1912 painting after just one minute of bidding. The previous record for a Picasso was $5.3 million paid in 1981 for “Self Portrait: Yo.” On Monday, Christie’s sold Impressionist Edgar Degas’ “Les Blanchisseuses,” a 19th-Century oil painting of French laundry women, for $13.7 million and Paul Gauguin’s “Les Trois Huttes” for $4.43 million.
