Smoke

On Nov. 17 The Times printed an ad in which the Tobacco Institute challenged the American Cancer Society (Part I) to clean the air in its offices, suggesting it was rife with “viruses, fungal spores, bacteria, gases, poor air-conditioning vents, etc.”

What does that have to do with nonsmokers breathing unpleasant, stinky, noxious cigarette smoke in common air space? Besides, no building anywhere, including hospitals, could pass such an inspection.

The foulness of cigarette smoke is what bothers nonsmokers most, but all tobacco lobbyists conveniently overlook that. That’s probably why the Tobacco Institute publishes no address; protection from rebuttals to such a specious and ludicrous argument.
