Local News in Brief : South County : Animal Might Have Caused Power Outage

Share

About 5,500 homes and businesses in south Orange County were without power for up to two hours Wednesday, and utility officials said the problem was probably caused by an animal.

Subscribers in San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente lost power at 9:50 a.m., San Diego Gas & Electric spokeswoman Karen Duncan said. Power was restored by 11:40 a.m., Duncan said.

No cause for the outage was found, and no further problems appeared when the system was reactivated, indicating a bird or animal may have contacted a wire and caused the outage, Duncan said.

“It would not have damaged the system but caused enough of a bump to knock it out,” she said.
