Fashion 87 : City Shorts : Suits Are Making a Brief Statement for Spring

Share

Shorts at the office? Don’t sneer. Every firm from Evan-Picone to Giorgio Armani offers citified shorts-suits for spring. And retailers aren’t ignoring the trend. They say suits with shorts instead of skirts are bound to make a mark. “We’re supporting the look,” says Bullock’s fashion director Monty Ventura, whose stores will offer shorts-suits at all price ranges in junior, contemporary and designer shops. “We especially like the softly shaped styles that look like skirts,” he adds.

Dyan Jozwick, vice president of better sportswear at the Broadway, agrees. “We like suits with long or short jackets and gracefully tailored shorts, many of which are just above the knee and very easy to wear.” The shorts, she explains, are not too narrow or too full. Some of the Broadway’s shorts-suits are from Jones New York and Evan-Picone, companies known for career-oriented clothing.
