Local News in Brief : City Official Asked to Quit
The Lawndale City Council has asked City Manager Paul Philips to resign, principally because of his management of the city’s Planning Department and Neighborhood Watch program, Mayor Sarann Kruse announced Friday.
The council has held four closed sessions on Philips’ performance as city manager. Another closed meeting is scheduled for Thursday, when the council is expected to review a severance agreement with Philips, who earns $60,000 a year.
Unless Philips finds another job first, he will remain a city employee until Feb. 23, the fifth anniversary of his hiring, so that he can become fully vested for retirement benefits, Kruse said.
Assistant City Manager Paula Cone is expected to be appointed acting city manager.
Philips, 38, was not available for comment.
