When an art stands still it dies. Broadway is gasping its last. The recording industry needs new product; so, they are producing old cast albums (“Original Broadway Cast Albums: The Market That Would Not Die,” by Paul Grein, Nov. 29).

Get off it!

There are thousands of new musical comedy scores out there that have never been produced. Innovation and guts are needed, not short-term profits!

For example, venture capital can be raised to finance video musical cassettes and albums with new scores. Put new wine into old bottles.

Peter Stone, president of the Dramatists Guild, has advised members to write small musicals. No opportunities for big musicals. So, after 24 years of futility, I quit as a librettist. Our last hope is the recording industry. New musical comedy scores can pump life back into the manifold music industry!
