Should the disabled be able to adopt children? That’s the question explored in “Eye on the Sparrow,” a new TV movie airing 9-11 p.m. Monday on NBC (Channels 4, 36 and 39).

Based on the real-life story of Ethel and James Lee, the film stars Mare Winningham and Keith Carradine as blind people who marry against the advice of friends and family, then try to start a family. Unable to have children of their own, they seek to adopt. Ultimately, they must go to court to fight for their right to be parents.

“Eye on the Sparrow” sports Emmy Award winners on both sides of the camera. Winningham won one for her performance in the TV movie “Amber Waves”; director John Korty has won two--for the drama “The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman” and for the documentary “Who Are the Debolts? And Where Did They Get Nineteen Kids?”
