A new theater group, Teatro Los Pastores, is joining the Christmas parade of shows with “City Shepherds,” a 45-minute urban modernized version of the traditional pastorala, or Nativity tale, written by Emilio Carballido and Maria Josefina Hernandez.

Working in association with the Old Globe’s Teatro Meta, the goal of Teatro Los Pastores, according to actress Yareli Arizmendi, who will appear in the show, is to “educate our (Latin) audience to come to theater” and to share their Latin tradition with the larger English-speaking crowd.

The production, which will travel around the city from Tuesday through Dec. 23, will be performed mostly in English with some Spanish expressions. It will play Tuesday and Dec. 17 at Hilltop Junior High School in Chula Vista, Dec. 16 at 7527 Cuvier St., La Jolla; Dec. 18 at the Chicano Federation in San Diego at 8 p.m.; Dec. 20 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in San Ysidro and Dec. 21 at Santa Rosa de Lima in Chula Vista at 7:30 p.m.; and at 6 p.m. Dec. 22 at Christ the King in San Diego.
