Violence Cancels Haiti’s Election
Thirty-four innocent people are murdered as they attempt to vote in Haiti. Once again violence and fear negate the Haitian peoples’ dream of democracy. The history of Haiti is a dreadful, bloody one. Where are the voices to scream against the continuation of the horror?
Our Reagan government is quick to self-righteous action when “democracy” is threatened in Nicaragua, the Soviet Union, Cuba, Grenada, but where is it when the Haitian people are being murdered by a government to whom we send military aid? How could we let it happen?
The Reagan government, my government, must speak up against the horror in Haiti; the U.S. must scream in the United Nations forum that the suffering must stop.
